At Sunapee Harbor Health, we are committed to providing personalized, relationship-based healthcare that puts patients first. We believe in transparency, and we want to clearly explain our participation with Medicare plans.
We gladly accept Traditional Medicare (Parts A & B) and most Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans.
Medigap plans work alongside original Medicare to help cover out-of-pocket costs such as deductibles, copays, and coinsurance. These plans generally allow patients greater flexibility in choosing their healthcare providers, and they support the direct provider-patient relationship that we value.
At this time, Sunapee Harbor Health is not participating with Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans.
While Medicare Advantage plans can be a valuable option for some individuals, our decision is based on our commitment to providing timely, individualized, and medically appropriate care to our patients.
1. Greater Freedom for Patients and Medical Providers: Traditional Medicare allows healthcare decisions to be made primarily between patients and their medical providers. Medicare Advantage plans often require additional approvals, referrals, or insurer involvement before certain services can be provided.
2. We strongly encourage Advance Primary Care Management (APCM) and with traditional Medicare and Medigap (supplement plans) it is covered at no additional expense to the patient.
3. Fewer Administrative Barriers: Many Medicare Advantage plans require prior authorizations for tests, treatments, medications, or specialist services. These processes can create delays and increase administrative burden, taking valuable time away from patient care.
4. Consistency and Simplicity: Original Medicare provides consistent coverage rules nationwide. Medicare Advantage plans vary by insurer, plan type, network, and geographic region, which can make coverage more complex for patients and providers.
5. Focus on Patient-Centered Care: Our goal is to spend more time caring for patients and less time navigating insurance-related restrictions, requirements, and approvals. We believe this approach helps us deliver the highest quality care and maintain strong patient-provider relationships.
If you have Original Medicare with or without a Medigap plan, we are happy to care for you.
If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, we encourage you to review your plan's network and benefits carefully. Depending on your specific plan, services at Sunapee Harbor Health may not be covered as in-network care.
Medicare choices can be confusing, and every patient's situation is unique. If you have questions about your coverage or are considering becoming a patient, please contact our office. We will be happy to help you understand your options and determine whether Sunapee Harbor Health is the right fit for your healthcare needs.
